Medicinal uses of Bamboo leaves and shoots

 

 

 

 

Bamboo leaves are a rich source of hydrocyanic and benzoic acids

 

Tender Bamboo shoots contain various enzymes such as nuclease, deamidase, proteolytic enzyme, amylase, amygdalin splitting and silicon splitting enzymes.

 

Juice of the pressed bamboo-shoots possesses protease activity which helps digestion of proteins.

 

Edible portion of Bamboo contains the following :

1)Calcium

2)Phosphorus,

3)Iron,

4)Thiamine

5)Riboflavin

6)Niacine

7) Vitamin C

 

 

 

Uses:

1)Young shoots of the bamboo tree are useful in stomach disorders. They are pickled or cooked.

 

2)The leaves of the bamboo tree are used in the form of decoction to treat diarrhea

 

3)Bamboo shoots are used in preparation of candy, chutney and canning of bamboo in syrups
